After several months of hard work and dedication, the new schoolhouse in Los Rincones is now complete! The inauguration ceremony took place on August 19, 2006 amid a flurry of joy from the large crowd of more than 300 people who came to celebrate this landmark achievement and historical time in the village.
Among the guests we had five different representatives from the Ministry of Education, a representative from the major office, a Christian guest speaker, BwB's International Program Coordinator, the president of BwB's Board of Directors in the country, a Peace Corp volunteer, some visitors from the nearby villages of El Rodeo and Jiņo Cuago and most everyone else from Los Rincones village.
At the ceremony, a Christian reverend blessed the schoolhouse. There were five traditional dances, which were performed by the students of the school. Some villagers recited poems they composed about the school and major players involved in the construction got a chance to talk and share their experience. At the end of the ceremony, a soon-to-be student at the new BwB school cut the ribbon and all the attendants clapped cheered on vigorously. A delicious chicken and peliguey (sheep) lunch followed the ceremony.
Antonio Gomez, a student parent, expressed his emotion and told us that the new school is "really important because the educational conditions have been improved. And now that we have this new school more kids will attend. And maybe this project is part of the village development." The school teacher in Los Rincones went further and concluded saying, "Everyone is bound stronger now because this schoolhouse project has been a common effort."
Thanks to all those who accompanied us in this journey and helped make a positive and lasting difference!
