BwB School in Haiti Used as Hurricane Shelter

 

In mid-August, Hurricane Dean passed over Haiti and other parts of the Caribbean, leaving death and destruction in its wake. One recently completed BwB school (in photo) in the coastal region of Les Cayes was used by local villages as shelter from the hurricane and may have saved lives. More...

Mali Millennium Promise to Grant $770,000 to BwB

Millennium Promise will grant $770,000 to Building with Books in 2008 to build more schools in rural villages in western Africa. Currently building 12 schools in southern Mali, BwB and Millennium Promise will build an additional 32 schools in Mali and expand into nearby Senegal. More...

Through his high school's BwB program, Jonathan Orc (left in photo) of San Francisco, California, worked a summer internship at a magazine called Youth Outlook. The magazine published a story Jonathan wrote about his life before joining BwB and the life-changing journey he took to a rural village in Africa. More...


US Programs 18 More U.S. Schools to Host BwB Programs

 

Welcome to eighteen high schools who will begin hosting BwB's after-school programs during the 2007-08 school year. With these programs, BwB now runs 108 programs in high schools across the country, empowering more than 2,000 students during the school year to change their own lives, the lives of others and the world.
